Join the Macalester-Groveland Community Council and Highland District Council for the 2nd annual the Home Improvement Workshop Day! For 20 years, the Home Improvement Fair has been one of our neighborhood’s most popular events, bringing hundreds of area homeowners to attend and learn about local businesses and vendor’s products, services, and/or educational efforts.

This class is for anyone, whether you’re interested in solar energy for residential, commercial, agricultural, or other types of property. Our solar expert will talk about how solar works, why solar is a great investment for your home and things to consider when deciding on your system.

This workshop will introduce participants to the wonders of growing native plants and their importance to native pollinators. Ramsey County Master Gardeners will share tips for starting a new bed of native perennials, sourcing the plants, and maintaining the garden throughout the season. We will also share images of our favorite plants and many resources for finding and learning about Minnesota native plants.

Presenting a workshop

As a presenter, you will have the opportunity to present a workshop to communicate the importance of services or products your company provides. Workshop space is limited and workshops will be chosen by the event organizers. Our objective is to provide a wide array of workshop topics that pertain to community interests, which we have gathered from community members through a recent poll.

Workshop Presentation Application

Home Improvement Workshop Day will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 9am-1pm at Cretin Derham Hall. If you are interested in participating as a workshop presenter, please fill out an application and return it to We will review applications and inform all applicants on an ongoing basis up until the application deadline: Saturday, February 10, 2024. The priority application deadline is Sunday, December 31, 2023.

In addition to presenting a workshop presenters will also receive:
  • Listing of your company/organization in the HIW program that will be distributed to all attendees
  • Promotional announcement in the following publications:
  • Facebook: updates on a Home Improvement Workshop page and posts on the Macalester-Groveland Community Council and Highland District Council pages
  • Highland District Council print newsletter, distribution 12,500

What is Home Improvement Workshop Day?

Home Improvement Workshop Day (HIWD) is the revitalized Home Improvement Fair. Attend one of 4-6 workshops every hour between the hours of 9am and 1pm. Each workshop will pertain to various topics deemed relevant to the community members of Mac-Grove and Highland.
